Local artist and second hand bookshop owner Colin Lyall who also runs the “UFO meet” a monthly club where all are welcome to share their experiences and thoughts about ufology, was my guide to all the places where sightings had occurred. As a local resident he became interested in the sightings when he started making an artwork in response to the most well known alien abduction story in the UK, that of police officer Alan Godfrey. On 28th November 1980 Godfrey claims that he saw a bright hovering and rotating object at street level, he experienced missing time and later, whilst under hypnotic regression described being medically examined by alien creatures.

This history combined with the auditory phenomenon of connecting to the spirit world is the basis for a 6 channel surround sound piece shown alongside a glass harp made up of donated glasses and glasses found in charity shops in and around Todmorden. Alongside this I showed part of Colin Lyall’s UFO magazine collection founded by brothers Graham and Mark Birdsall of Leeds, Yorkshire in 1981. It was an international publication devoted to stories of UFO sightings, alien abductions and cattle mutilations from around the world, and was in circulation until 2004, now a rare and sought after commodity in the ufology community.
